Frequently Asked Questions

I have done a course at another school or have not done a more basic course. Can I join a higher-level course?
Yes. Please contact our customer services for a level assessment and with help selecting the appropriate course.

I have already done a course in Hungarian, may I continue at a higher level, in the WSET branch (in English)?
In the case of WSET® Level 2 Award in Wines, yes, but WSET® Level 3 Award in Wines requires successful completion of WSET® Level 2 Award in Wines or equivalent knowledge. Please contact our customer services for a level assessment.

What level of language proficiency is required to participate in a WSET course?
The language of instruction (and the exams) is English, so it is only recommended for those with confident language skills (WSET uses the expression “a good command of English”).

Why should I take an exam at the end of the course?
Taking the exam is not compulsory, but we can only give a certificate to students who have passed the exam. In the case of WSET courses, you will only be awarded the qualification if you have passed the exam. Such qualifications are a huge advantage if you wish to work abroad.
You have to register for the exams in advance. You can see the exam dates under Exam dates in the menu.

How much independent study time is recommended to pass the exam?
  • WSET® Level 1 Award in Wines: 6 hours
  • WSET® Level 2 Award in Wines: 28 hours
  • WSET® Level 2 Award in Spirits: 26 hours
  • WSET® Level 3 Award in Wines: 84 hours

What qualification do I get if I pass the exam?

Course name Qualification
WSET Level 1 Internationally recognised qualification (WSET Level 1 Award in Wines)
WSET Level 2 Internationally recognised qualification (WSET Level 2 Award in Wines)
WSET Level 3 Internationally recognised qualification (WSET Level 3 Award in Wines)
WSET Level 1 - Spirits Internationally recognised qualification (WSET Level 1 Award in Spirits)
WSET Level 2 – Spirits Internationally recognised qualification (WSET Level 2 Award in Spirits)

Where are the courses held?
In Budapest, at the Borkollégium (address: 1067 Budapest, Podmaniczky u. 31. I/7.).

Can I purchase a coursebook at the school at the start of the course without having pre-ordered?
You can purchase Hungarian-language coursebooks without pre-order during opening hours (Monday to Friday, 9.00-17.00).
You can only purchase the WSET course materials as part of the course package. WSET calculates the cost of the course, the course materials (book and workbook), the exam and administration fees (e.g. postage and cost of certificate issue) together, so the learning materials cannot be purchased separately.  However, you can buy the books (not including the workbooks) directly in the WSET Global webshop or at our office, depending on available stock.

Why are the WSET courses more expensive?
Because WSET courses not only include the training itself and the wines tasted but also the course materials (book and workbook), the fee for the international exam and certain administrative costs (e.g. postage and certificate issue cost). You can ask our customer services about any other additional exam fees.
